FAQ

Is Cards Out Loud free to play?

Yes. The Base Game is always free to play in both the Explicit and Family friendly versions, with no card limit and no sign up. Every themed pack sits alongside it in the lobby, and the host picks which ones go into the game.

Is Cards Out Loud best played in person?

Yes. It is at its best around one table, where everyone can hear the answers read out loud and watch the room react. Your phone is just the deck, so nothing about it is remote by default. That said, it works just as well over a video call: everyone joins the same room code from wherever they are.

Do my friends need to download an app?

No. Cards Out Loud runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or laptop. Players open the link or scan the QR code, pick a name and they are in. No app store, no account, no password.

How many people can play?

Three to eight players. Five or six is the sweet spot: enough answers to be a real contest, few enough that every round moves quickly.

Can two people play?

Yes, by adding bots in the lobby. Bots play a random card each round and never judge, so two humans still get real turns as judge and a real choice to make.

How long does a game take?

Ten minutes to about an hour. The host sets the number of rotations before the game starts, so a quick game after dinner and a long game night both work.

What is a round versus a rotation?

A round is one prompt: everyone plays a card and the judge picks a winner. A rotation is a full lap of the table, meaning every player has been the judge once. The host chooses how many rotations to play, which keeps the turns even.

How do you win?

Each round the judge picks their favorite answer and that player takes a point. Every player judges the same number of times, so nobody has an advantage, and the most points at the end wins.

Is it appropriate for family game night?

Yes, if you pick the Family friendly version when you host. It is the same game with no adult content, so it works for kids, parents and grandparents at the same table.

What if we only have one phone?

Use pass and play. It hides each hand as the device goes round the table, so a single screen still works.

What do I need to start a game?

One device per player and an internet connection. That is it. There is nothing to install and no account to create.

Can I play with the same friends again?

Yes. Host a new room, share the code, and the game remembers nothing about the last one, so the cards stay a surprise.

Does it work on a laptop or a tablet?

Yes. It runs in any modern browser. Each player needs their own screen though, since your hand is private.

Can I use more than one card pack at once?

Yes. The host selects any combination of packs in the lobby and the packs are merged for that game.

Are there ads?

No. There are no ads and no tracking beyond what is needed to run a game room.

Do you store my name or my games?

A game room holds only the names players type and the cards in play, so the game can sync between devices. There are no accounts and no personal details are collected.

Ready?

Grab a room code and send it round the table.
